At 9:46 P.M. Metro Engine 106 arrived on Lerwick Road and reported flames from an upstairs apartment. A second alarm was immediately called bringing a total of 27 firefighters to the scene to control the fire.

The fire was kept to the one upstairs apartment. Fire investigators interviewed the family that occupied the apartment. It was found that a power outage had occurred a short time before the fire started. The family was using candles to light the apartment. The power came back on and the candles were forgotten. The fire started in a back bedroom by the candles and spread through the apartment causing extensive damage to the one of four apartments in the complex.

American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist placing the four families that occupy the apartment complex. The fire caused structural damage to the building and the power was cut to the adjacent apartments. A total of 25 residents will be temporarily housed pending repairs on the building.
