On Monday, October 7, 2002 at 4:00 PM, Metro Fire will be holding a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Unveiling of Metro Copter 1. The ceremony will take place at Metro Fire Station 115 located at 4727 Kilzer Avenue, Building #737 at McClellan Park. Metro Copter 1 is a Vietnam Era Bell 205 UH-1H Huey. Copter 1 has been completely refurbished and rebuilt to serve the purpose of an all risk helicopter providing many functions within the fire district. The helicopter will be put into action operationally for fire suppression; rescues; floods; weapons of mass destruction incidents, earthquakes; etc. and will also provide an observational/viewing platform for many different types of 9-1-1 calls. Copter 1 will be capable of dropping 4,000 gallons of water an hour delivered by a 325 gallon fixed tank. Contract pilots and trained Firefighter pilots will fly the helicopter while specially trained Air Operational staff evaluate the scene. Metro Fire is currently the only municipal fire department to have our own helicopter. Metro Copter 1 will officially be in service following the ceremony. Many local and state dignitaries have been invited to attend the unveiling. Please come and join us in this momentous occasion.
