WELCOME TO THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS



Whether you have come to observe this meeting because of general interest, or because a particular item before the Board of Directors has special importance for you, your presence is an important means of helping to ensure informed and responsible government.

THE BOARD REPRESENTS ALL THE VOTERS IN THE DISTRICT

The Board is selected by the voters registered in the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District's to serve as the governing body for the District's more than 600,000 residents. Members of the Board are elected by geographical Division for 4 years. The Board of Directors establishes District policy and sees that the District Staff, through the Fire Chief properly carries out this policy. The Board of Directors holds regular monthly meetings on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 6:00 PM. Agendas for regular and special meetings are posted at the Administration headquarters prior to meetings.

BOARD POLICY AND ACTIONS

District policy and actions may be adopted by motion, or more formally by resolution. A motion is a statement approved by the majority of the Board of Directors. A resolution is a written document, which the Board adopts by a majority vote.

IF YOU WISH TO ADDRESS THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

1. If your item is not on the agenda, you may speak under the item Comments from the Public.

2. If your item is on the agenda, the President will call for comments from the audience when the Board reaches that item. If he doesn't call for comments, then you can approach the public microphone and wait for the President to acknowledge you.

Before speaking, please step forward to the public microphone and clearly state your name, address, and if you are a resident of the District.

PUBLIC HEARING PROCEDURE

Procedures at public hearing shall be as follows:
a. Staff presentation/recommendation;
b. Questions of the staff;
c. Individuals speaking in support;
d. Questions of individuals speaking in support;
e. Individuals speaking in opposition;
f. Questions of individuals speaking in opposition;
g. Rebuttal (if any);
h. Public input (if any);
i. Board questions, discussion, and disposition (Vote).
