FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 1, 2002

Sacramento Metro Firefighters responded to a report of a man that fell 75 feet down the Fair Oaks Bluffs that oversee the American River. Fair Oaks Engine 31 arrived and found a 29-year-old male that had fallen from the edge of the Fair Oaks Bluffs. The man had apparently had been sitting on the edge celebrating the New Year when he suddenly slipped over the edge of the steep cliff.

Metro Fire responded the river rescue boat to gain access to the patient that was lying near the water's edge. Truck and Rescue 21 set up a rope system and repelled down to the patient.

When Paramedics arrived at the patient, they moved him to a waiting medic unit. The patient was transported to Mercy San Juan Hospital and is listed in critical condition with possible spinal and other significant injuries from the fall.

The Fair Oaks River Bluffs have been a very popular lookout over the River, however the area is extremely dangerous. Over the years several  people have fallen from the bluffs and sustained severe injuries.
