A few minutes after Twelve on Sunday afternoon, February 17, 2002,
Firefighters from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to a
report of a bedroom fire on the 7200 block of Willow River Court.
Firefighters arrived to find the interior rooms of one-half of this
Duplex home on fire with extension into the attic. Fire crews used
multiple hose lines to extinguish the fire, which was well seated in the
heavy contents of the home. The fire was brought under control in
approximately 25 minutes through the hard work of 22 Firefighters. The
only occupant had self evacuated and was checked at the scene by fire
medics for possible smoke inhalation. There were no injuries.
Initial damage estimates to the building and personal property was
approximately $80,000. Fire Investigators have focused on an unattended
portable electrical heating appliance as the possible cause of the fire.
