PRESS RELEASE
TRAILER CONTAINING AMMUNITION ROLLS CLOSING I-80
April 13, 2002
At approximately 7:45 AM on April 13, 2002, units from Sacramento
Metropolitan Fire District, along with the CHP, were called to the
rollover of a Van and Trailer along westbound Interstate 80, west of
Greenback Lane. After arrival, more than 100 pounds of smokeless powder
and 4 pallets of ammunition were discovered in the Van and Trailer.
The Sacramento City Fire Hazardous Materials Team was called out along
with the Sacramento Sheriff's Bomb squad, who supervised the unloading of
the explosive material. The California Highway Patrol interviewed the
driver. There were no injuries reported.
