Just before 5: 00 am this morning Metro Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a fire at the Del Norte Swim And Racquet Club in Sacramento Ca. When Engine #102 arrived they reported a working fire in the poolroom of the club. The fire was working its way toward the locker rooms of a building that is approximately 7,000 square feet. A second alarm was sounded as well as a request for a Hazardous Materials response team from the Sacramento Fire Department. The fire was quickly controlled keeping the damage to the poolroom and a portion of a locker room. Haz Mat #20 assessed the run off from pool chemicals and determined the area to be safe. No run off made its way to storm drains or residential areas. Crews stayed on scent until just after 7:00 am mopping up. Del Norte Club was built in 1957 and has over 1500 active members use the club on a regular basis. Staff at the club will work quickly to get the power turned back on and get the pool operational. Damage was estimated at $60,000 for the structure and $5,000 for contents. The cause is still under investigation.
