Press Release: Three Alarm Fire In an Orangevale Upholstery Shop

8:00 PM Metro Fire responded to a commercial Strip mall fire at 6248
Main Ave in Orangevale, Sacramento County. Engine 22 arrived and reported
heavy fire conditions in an upholstery shop. The firefighters entered the
shop to fight the fire when the building flashed over causing severe fire
conditions inside the building.
Three Firefighters were inside the building at the time of the
flashover. Firefighter Brian Swindler received second-degree burns on his
chest and back area from the flashover. Swindler was transported to UCD
Medical Center and is being treated for the burns. It is expected that
Swindler will be released to go home tonight. One other Firefighter
received minor burns on his hands. The third firefighter had heat
exhaustion. Both remained on the scene.
The fire burned approximately 100 feet to the east of the upholstery
shop. Firefighters were able to keep the fast moving fire from damaging
other businesses. The fire was brought under control in just over one hour
after the first alarm was dispatched. Firefighters will be on the scene
through out the evening extinguishing hot spots and attempting to
determine a cause.
