On March 23 2002 8-year-old Molly Barth was riding in the car with her mother. They were traveling down Greenback Lane in Citrus Heights when her mother had a sudden onset of a Diabetic reaction. Her mother became disoriented and her blood sugar was dropping to the point of causing disorientation and confusion.

Molly was able to recognize this happening. She reached over and grabbed the steering wheel to keep the car from hitting on-coming traffic. Molly then called her dad and was unable to tell him where they were. The SUV slowed to a side street and came to rest after hitting a parked car. Molly turned off the engine exited the vehicle and knocked on a residents door to request assistance. Molly had told the residents that her mother was a Diabetic, which prompted a giving molly's mom some grape jelly in and effort to raise her blood sugar.

Metro Fire Paramedics arrived and provided an IV with Dextrose. Molly's mom became conscious and was transported to the hospital.

Molly is a hero in the eyes of Metro Fire. Chief Martinez recognizes Molly, s actions tonight at 6:00PM at a regular board of directors meeting. 2101 Hurley Way .
