At 3:45 PM today Metro Fire responded to a report of a grass fire in the area of Florin and Bradshaw Road in South Sacramento County. When fire units arrived a large fast moving grass fire was immediately threatening several structures.

Battalion Chief Ken Poole immediately called for additional resources with anticipation the personnel and equipment would be used to stop the fire from destroying several homes that were in the path of the fire. Just after 4:00 Pm a total of 26 Engines were called from the following agencies. Metro Fire, Sacramento Fire Department, Elk Grove Fire Department and California Department Of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Before the fire was brought under control an hour and half later, a portion of a home and barn had sustained damage as well as an out building. A Metro Firefighter/Paramedic received minor burns from the fire. He was transported to UCD for evaluation. He is expected to be released from UCD this evening. The fire damaged metro Engine #50. The paint was scorched as well as the light bar and windshield.

Fire Investigators ruled the fire to be man caused and accidental in nature. A resident in the area was working on a vehicle when the fire started. Fire investigators are still looking into the specific cause.

This fire is an example of what firefighters can be faced with all summer. The conditions are dry and the fire danger is extreme. All Fire agencies are asking for all to pay close attention to outside activities in an effort to minimize the potential fire dangers.
