The Forth of July is one of the busiest days for all of the rafting
companies along the American River. Thousands will raft down the river
enjoying the sunshine and water on this Independence Day. Unfortunately
many of the visitors will leave hundreds of pounds of trash littering the
shoreline and in the river.
For the last four years Metro Firefighters have been assisting
Sacramento County Parks in cleaning up the river. Many of the areas along
the river are not accessible to maintenance crews. Metro Fire has trained
Rescue Boat Operators as well as trained Swift Water rescue Personnel that
can reach difficult areas.
The cleanup project will start at 9:00 AM. The boats will launch at the
Sunrise Access point. Enter off North Bound Sunrise; turn right on South
Bridge Street. Follow South Bridge past the Pay booth and turn left on the
frontage road. Follow until you pass under Sunrise Blvd. Look for Metro
Fire Equipment.
