Just Before 4:30 AM Metro Fire Responded to a report of a residential structure Fire on Maple Glen Road in the Arden Oaks Community. Metro Engine #110 arrived and reported a well-involved roof on a 4,000 square foot home. A second alarm was called bringing additional firefighters to the scene including assistance from Sacramento Fire Department.

An elderly couple woke up to the sound of a smoke detector. Smoke was already starting to fill the home. The couple called 911 and exited the home safely. Firefighters were able to salvage portions of the home by placing tarps on personal belongings while fighting the fire.

In this particular area firefighters have a challenge with water supply due to the fire hydrants are spread in some places over 1,000 feet apart. Water pressure is particularly low as well due to the size of the water mains. The water company was requested to boost the pressure for firefighters.

Fire Investigators are looking at the cause to be most likely an electrical short in the attic of the home. The home will need extensive repairs before the couple can move back in. A working smoke detector was a key factor as to why no injuries occurred from this fire.
