 Two-Alarm Salvage Yard Fire in Rio Linda

5:48 P.M. Metro Firefighters responded to a report of a grass fire at 6815 West 6th Street in the community of Rio Linda. When Firefighters arrived they found an automotive salvage yard on fire.

The fire had worked its way into at least a dozen cars and into several lumber piles including a stack of railroad ties. Additional help was called bringing a total of 25 Firefighters to the scene. The fire was brought under control just after 7:00P.M. Water supply was a challenge to the firefighters. Two water tenders had to be called to the scene to provide additional water supply.

Firefighters will be on scene extinguishing hot spots for several hours. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation. Assistance was provided by the Sacramento Fire Department.
