Just after 7:00 A.M. this morning Metro Firefighters responded to
Harston Way in the community of Antelope for a report of a structure fire
in a construction site. While the crews were crossing over the overpass on
Antelope Road they reported a large column of smoke and flames visible 100
feet in the air.
A second alarm was requested with the anticipation that the fire would
escalate. When Engine 25 arrived on scene, the Captain reported three
houses that were in the framed stage of construction fully involved, with
several others that were immediately threatened. The fire did cause minor
damage to three other homes. The builder on scene indicated that the homes
destroyed would be cleared away including the concrete pads the homes are
constructed on.
The cause of the fire was determined to be caused by plumbers sweating
pipes. Estimated loss is at $1,000,000.
