At 5:54 p.m. a.m. the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to an Emergency Medical Service call to the rear of 9619 Mira Del Rio.  A 10 year old woman fell of the cliffs above the American River. The lady's fall was heard by two kayakers and a near-by-hiker. The kayakers went to assist the woman as the hiker notified 9-1-1.

The first arriving Fire Company, Battalion 14, was directed by the reporting party behind the residence to the river's edge. The first arriving Engine Company, Engine 64, made access to the patient to evaluate the severity of the injury.

It was discovered the lady was riding her bicycle and was resting for a few minutes. She moved towards the edge of the cliffs and leaned against a tree branch that immediately gave way leading to her falling about 20 to 30 feet down the embankment.

Sacramento Metropolitan's Helicopter, Metro 1 responded to assist in locating the patient in addition to providing assisting with evaluating the river for possible rescue utilizing Metro Fire's Boat 106. It was determined the river rescue would be the least preferred method for removing the victim. Additional resources were utilized to secure the patient to a stokes rescue basket and a technical rescue team was established to construct a rope rescue system to assist with removing the patient from over the edge. It took firefighters about 45 minutes to complete the packaging and removal of the patient from the bottom of the cliff area to the top of the river's bank.

The patient was identified as Rebecca Scott, 19, and she was transported to UCD Medical Center in stable condition for further assessment and treatment with a suspected leg fracture and further evaluation of injuries.
