| 7:08 A.M. This morning Metro
Firefighters responded to 8949 Rio Linda Bvld in the community of
Elverta for a report of a house fire. When Engine 111 arrived they
reported a two story house fully involved. The two parents were
responsible for ensuring all five children ages two to nine years old
made it safely out a second story window. When the Firefighters
arrived they were able to quickly confirm that the family of seven was
safe due to the fact that the family stayed at a meeting place. The
whole family left together and stayed together with no attemps on
entering the burning structure. All were transported to Mercy San Juan
Hospital for evaluation. The mother is being treated for smoke
inhalation. The rest of the family was evaluated and released. Three
Water tenders responded to assist in providing a water supply. This is
a common practice in rural areas. The fire destroyed to two-story
ranch style home. The fire took just under an hour to contain. Fire
Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire. The family will
be displaced from the damaged home. Other family members indicated
that they would have a place to stay until the home can be rebuilt.
Metro fire commends the two parents for an orderly evacuation of all
five children. This is what all area Fire Departments like to see.
When the first Fire Company arrived the family should be together at a
common meeting place so a role call can be taken. Property Loss
Estimated and $140,000 for the structure and $40,000 for the contents.
