FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ANIMAL RESCUE ON AMERICAN RIVER BLUFFS

January 6,2001
9500 Lake Natoma Dr, Fair Oaks Ca. A 90-pound Labrador Retriever named "Smokey" fell down a steep cliff portion of the American River Bluffs just after noon today. The owner searched for three hours finally discovering that Smokey was trapped on a ledge 80 feet from the bottom of the cliff.

Metro Firefighters responded to assist in the rescue just before 5:00pm. A rope system had to be set up to allow Firefighters the ability to repel down to the trapped Labrador. Once the firefighters reached Smokey, it took some convincing on the rescuers part to insure we were there to help.

Smokey was placed in a harness and the Firefighters hauled him up the cliff. The rescue took just over two hours. The dog's owners were grateful to see that their Lab was unhurt and glad to be off the cliff.
