The residential fire problem represented approximately 82
percent of all fire deaths and 75 percent of the injuries to civilians in 1999.
It also accounted for more firefighter injuries than any other occupancy
category. Between 1990 and 1999, residential structures represented
approximately 81 percent of fire deaths, 74 percent of fire injuries, 52 percent
of total fire dollar loss, and 23 percent of all fires.
The following table shows the number of fires, deaths,
injuries and dollar loss that occurred in residential properties from 1990 to
1999.
