The Safety
Division is responsible for ensuring a safe work environment for all Metro
Fire employees while in the station as well as handling emergencies in the
field. Safety performs these duties by assisting in the research and
development of quality personal protective equipment and by proactively
designing programs and or policies that reduce the potential of an injury
from occurring. In the event of a major alarm or hazardous materials
incident, a representative of the Safety Division will be dispatched
to aid the Incident Commander with monitoring the emergency scene for any
potential safety related concerns. Also, we routinely assist Community
Services by relaying information on to them for release to the local news
media, which directly effects the safety of the public, such as the recent
UL safety alert regarding the dangers associated with the use of a turkey
fryer.
